Three Simple Steps To Body Care

I haven’t always been disciplined about caring for the skin on my body i.e. neck, chest, stomach, arms and legs but one day you wake up and realize you’re not 25 years old anymore. Somewhere between having a baby and turning 40 let’s just say thing started to “change”. Here are 3 steps I do (almost) everyday to invigorate, renew and moisturize my body.

Dry Brushing:

Adding this simple step to your daily showering routine can do wonders for your skin and body. It encourages the renewal of fresh, healthy skin cells and diminishes the appearance of cellulite. It also increases blood circulation and promotes lymph flow/drainage. Dry brushing unclogs pores and readies your skin for products like body oil and moisturizer. I’m not gonna lie some days I just want to skip this step but I always feel more energized and once you get used to the “feeling” you crave it. Try dry brushing twice a week on dry skin before showering or bathing. Start at your feet and use slow, clockwise strokes towards your heart. I like to do my legs, back of legs, butt, stomach (clockwise circles), arms, then finish with circles on my shoulders. Avoid chest, neck and face.

Body Oil:

After bathing or showering, while skin is still damp I like to apply a body oil all over my body. I like to give extra love and attention to my knees, thighs and stomach area, also don’t forget the back of your neck and shoulders. Should the oil be applied first or last? Dermatologists will tell you oil should be applied last as it’s impenetrable and repels water but either way get that oil and moisturizer on you skin after showering. I personally like to apply oil then moisturizer.

Moisturizer:

I like to start with a light, easy to absorb moisturizer then depending on the season I add a thicker balm/cream to spot treat. This simple 3 step body care routine gives me 5 minutes of alone time, self care and love that’s needed to start my day right.
